Use case

Track EDT workouts without fighting your logger

If you run EDT in a generic logger, you spend the block fighting the app: it wants a “top set”, it inserts rest timers you don’t want, and it has no idea that the point is total reps at a fixed load inside a 15-minute window. So you end up tracking density in your head or on paper.

The workflow in Kapel

1. Your session is a list of zones. Put each EDT block in its own timed zone — a PR zone holding an antagonist pair (say incline press and a chest-supported row) with a duration and a load. Straight-set work goes in its own straight zone. Kapel keeps them distinct.

2. Run the zone. The live session screen shows one exercise at a time with the paired movement queued next. Tap your reps on a strip centred on the prescription; the load is sticky and snaps to real 2.5 kg increments.

3. No rest, just alternation. An EDT zone has no between-set rest. After each set Kapel moves you straight to the antagonist while the zone clock runs — which is how EDT is actually meant to flow.

4. Reps accumulate against the clock. The metric is total reps in the window at your fixed load. Beat that number next time in the same block, and that’s the progression. Every set is written as you go, so a dropped connection loses nothing.

What makes this work

EDT is a first-class structure in Kapel’s data model, not a workaround: a timed zone, an antagonist pair, a fixed load, and rep accumulation as the metric. Because it’s modelled directly, the stats you see match the protocol — accumulated reps and volume, not a meaningless single top set.

Handled honestly

  • Loads snap to a 2.5 kg grid by default; an unusual increment is approximated to the nearest assemblable weight.
  • EDT is one protocol among several. Kapel models supersets, circuits, AMRAP, and EMOM too, but it is not a full periodisation planner — it tracks the block, it doesn’t autoregulate your programme.

Kapel is in alpha. Set up a PR zone, run it live, and let the app keep the density math.

FAQ

How does Kapel handle the EDT rest rule?

An EDT zone has no rest between efforts — you alternate the antagonist pair and the zone clock governs. The live session screen enforces this, moving you to the paired exercise after each set.

Can I mix EDT with straight sets in one session?

Yes. A session is a list of zones; put your EDT blocks in their own timed zones and your straight-set work in a straight zone. Each is tracked by its own protocol.

What's the progression metric?

Total reps accumulated in the zone at a fixed load. When you beat your rep count in the same block, that's the PR.
